Rose Defa

Rose Defa has worked in business development, educational and charitable programs since 1988 after receiving a degree in business management from Westminster College, Salt Lake City. She has developed and implemented employee-training programs at the University of Utah Small Business Development Center (SBCD) and Salt Lake Community College. Previously, she managed the headquarters for an international professional association, and served as vice president for the American Cancer Society, Wasatch Front region. At Salt Lake Community College, she oversees a diverse department of resources and talented people with the goal to meet the workforce development needs of business and industry.

De Anna Fry has been an Administrative Assistant/Secretary at the College for the past 10 years. She offers extensive experience in administration and support services. She enjoyed a 35-year career as a property/casualty underwriter, and as a Homeowner Coordinator for the Del Webb Corporation prior to coming to Salt Lake Community College. She serves the secretarial and administrative needs of multiple areas within the department. Her special focus is on providing the best customer service possible.

Sherralynn Warburton

Sherralynn Warburton began her career at Salt Lake Community College in 2003, in Program Operations. For the past five years Sherralynn has been with the Corporate Solutions team, working as the ACT High Stakes Testing and Licensing Center Coordinator. Sherralynn proctors over 2000 exams per year including: ASWB Licensing, ASE Automotive Certification, CDR Commission on Dietetic Registration /ADA American Dietitian Association exam and FSOT Foreign Service Officer Test, just to name a few. The Center has helped many people better their careers by much needed certification and licensing.

Michelle Draper

Michelle Draper has been employed at SLCC since 2002 as an interpreter, lab mentor, adjunct faculty and has been the Director of the ASLI Fast Track Program since 2006. Michelle graduated from the SLCC Interpreter Training Program in 2002. Michelle received her Utah Professional Level Certification in 2003 and National Interpreter Certification in 2007. She has national and international interpreting experience in post-secondary, medical, legal, community, and video relay settings. Michelle also has an undergraduate degree from Utah State University in Mathematics and Statistics Education.

Kay Carter

Kay Carter has been with Salt Lake Community College for 3 years.  She currently works with our Corporate Training Team as the CAD coordinator.  Kay earned her bachelor's degree at the University of Utah and worked for Marriott Hotels in Human Resources for eight years.  While living in New Mexico, Kay worked as a Technical Writer for the Department of Energy at Sandia National Laboratories in Albuquerque.  Before joining the college, Kay worked for Jordan School District in Student Intervention Services mentoring children ages 5 to 18 in foster care.

Daryl Thompson

Daryl Thompson manages and develops SLCC’s Composite Program. Daryl brings over twenty years of experience in the composite industry to SLCC. With experience in the Marine, Automotive and Aerospace industry, Daryl brings a vast amount of knowledge to the composite students. SLCC has a “state-of-the-art” composite lab facility at their Meadowbrook location where students and industry work together advancing their respective knowledge. Daryl spearheads a collaboration with a Department of Labor grant that supports training technicians for the rapidly expanding composites industry.

Mark Poole

Mark Poole oversees the custom and corporate partnership program which offers specialized training services for medium to large companies in Salt Lake County and Utah and he is responsible for the Global Corporate College initiatives. Mark graduated from Utah State University in 1995 with his master’s degree in Business Writing. He has worked in development and operations for many years. His specialty is increasing sales and improving operations through training, coaching, marketing and strategic planning. Mark’s experience also includes customer service and quality assurance expertise that he applies to Corporate Solutions customer care philosophy.

Susana Chaffos

With over 15 years of higher education experience, Susana Chaffos offers training solutions designed and delivered through Salt Lake Community College and community resources. Susana’s expertise focuses on finding just the right training for company workforce development needs. She specializes in building programs that involve blended learning delivery methods and that can meet the needs of both large and small businesses.

Shannon Strickland

Shannon Strickland has focused his 20-year career in training, development and project and operations management. His graduate studies in the area of Adult Education furthered his interest in adult learning methodologies and the successes that occur when people are engaged and properly trained. Shannon’s training, operations, and project management experience and his Spanish skills allow him to help companies refine their business processes, saving substantial time and money. Shannon enjoys helping companies take advantage of the training resources offered by Salt Lake Community College’s Custom Fit Training program.

Joan Hill

Joan attended Utah State University and has been employed by the Salt Lake Community College for 25 years. As faculty, she coordinated and instructed an Office Information Systems program at the Tooele Center for 20 years. She also acted as an employment counselor and during this time she received a Teaching Excellence award from Salt Lake Community College. For the past five years Joan has worked as a Corporate Solutions Custom Fit Specialist in Tooele County assisting businesses with employee training programs.

Donna Smith

Donna graduated from the University of Utah, with honors, where she earned a degree in History with an emphasis in South Asia and Spanish. She is a member of Phi Alpha Theta Honor Society. Donna offers experience in for-profit organizations, education and sales. She worked as a manager of a trucking company where she developed and managed operations, established new accounts and expanded the company into a profitable organization. Her experience includes administration in healthcare, sales and in education, teaching, training and working with high-risk students. Donna has been involved in numerous community service activities such as developing and directing a youth community program, serving as Exchange Director and as a member of Friendship Force International. As Corporate Solution’s STIT Coordinator, Donna works with individuals and companies to match training programs with job opportunities.

Anita Oleksy

Vehicle Safety Inspection and Applied Emissions Coordinator

Anita Oleksy has been with the College just over 10 years starting in the Work Study program. She has coordinated the Safety Inspection and Applied Emissions program for ten years. Anita has developed good customer service systems to ensure trainees receive the best training possible. Anita includes in her job researching and ensuring quality improvement processes. She enjoys working with state and county agencies associated with her program.

Joe Fox

Joe Fox has worked for a number of successful Utah companies since his graduation from Utah State University. He was one of the first 100 hired when Fidelity Investments came to Utah. As Sales Director, Joe helped Fatpipe Networks get to “the 6th fastest growing company in Utah in 2004.” He also worked at Strata, a 3d graphics company in St George, where he helped grow their technical and training department with seminars, videos and a workbook. His technical, sales and constituent relationship management expertise supports the every-growing demand for workforce training within the programs he manages.
